Imelda Kilbane
Imelda Kilbane was born in Liverpool, England in 1978 and moved to Achill Island in the West of Ireland in early childhood. She received a BA in Fine Art from the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology in 2012 and since then her work has been exhibited widely throughout Ireland, and selected for prestigious Open Exhibitions.
Imelda Kilbane is inspired by the west of Irelands scenery and she works largely in monochromatic tones. Her work is the result of an innate knowledge, personal memories and the study of her native landscape from topography to climate. Atmosphere, drawn from themes of beauty and isolation are addressed to create an image that is unseen or less visceral in direct representations.
In her mixed media works on paper and board Kilbane uses goache, acrylic, Indian ink, pigments and found objects such as heather, sand and crushed windscreen glass. Kilbane's interest in the expressive language of paint and mark making is apparent within her work.
