Broken Ground
Broken Ground
OCT 2 – OCT 30 2021
Artist: Kaye Maahs
Broken Ground is an exhibition of new paintings by Kaye Maahs which opens October 2nd and runs until October 30th.
An exhibition of new paintings by Kaye Maahs will open at Claremorris Gallery on 2 October 2021 and will remain on show until 20 October 2021. Broken Ground pays homage to the landscape of the Burren in County Clare, an ancient landscape moulded over time, by the sea, wind and rain, a place where Maahs now calls home. A keen observer of the natural world and of mankind’s relationship with it, Maahsʼ affinity with the unique landscape of the Burren and that of paint are at the core of this body of work. Born in Kerry in 1970, Maahs has been living and working in Clare since 2003. She received her BA in Fine Art from, Centre of Creative Arts & Media, GMIT Galway in 2015. Since then she has gone on to exhibit widely across Ireland and her work has been included in group exhibitions such as the Royal Hibernian Academy, Cairde Visual and Kerry Visual Artist Showcase. Recently awarded an Agility Award from the Art Council of Ireland (2021) that will enable her to focus on a new body of work in 2022 on research gathered while in Iceland in 2019, that was supported by the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust Award.
Kaye was also a recipient of the Clare Artists’ Mentoring Scheme with Glor, Ennis (2020) that was supported by Creative Ireland & the Arts Council of Ireland; her mentor was Una Sealy, RHA, Dublin.
